Photo courtesy of HotribsNot content with taking it easy this Autumn, at the start of November 2011 Chris Strickland and Jon Adlard decided to take Chris’s Scorpion Sting “Seahound V” on a road-trip to the lake district to participate in the Coniston Power Boat Records Week.

For those of us not familiar with this event, it is a “once a year” opportunity in the UK for those with big spheres to tear up and down Coniston Water at top speed. With all the official timing and organisational trimmings in place if you go fast enough you get a nice shiny star and a place in the record books for your efforts. The course is 1km up Coniston water and then return 1km. The average time is then taken and converted into mph.

This year there have been a few class changes, so Chris and Jon were able to go for a number of different records.

3am start….. groan! A drive up to Gatwick for the 5.30am flight to Split. Most of us only half awake and groggy, but a few started the holiday early by getting the beers in on the plane. We arrived in Split where the weather was already warm and sunny, even at 8am. Our hosts, Aventur (http://www.aventur-agency.com/) had sent Tea (pronounced Teya) to meet and greet us and show us to our coaches to Trogir and our first excellent hotel of the holiday, the Palace Hotel.

Too early to check-in, Aventur had arranged a briefing in the hotel. However, one half of the group managed to lose the other half and we couldn’t find the briefing room! On 29th October an informal cruise to Chichester Harbour was organised via the website Forum.
